Draft SEIS

Subject: Saddle Road, Mamalahoa to Milepost 41 Island of Hawai, Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement
Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and Chapter 343, Hawaii Revised Statues, we have enclosed for your review and comments, either a hardcopy of the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for this project, or a CD which contains the project's Draft SEIS and it appendices. A new alignment is being considered, which passes through the Ke'amuku parcel (TMK (3rd): 6-7-001-041) and would relocate the new roadway to follow the southern boundary of this parcel.
If you received a CD and desire a hardcopy of the Draft SEIS, please contact Dina Lau at 587-6307. If you are unable to open the CD or need instructions to access the Draft SEIS, we encourage you to contact Bruce Meyers at (808) 961-5527.
Your comments on the Draft SEIS are very important to us. Your written comments should be submitted or postmarked no later then January 7th, 2010. Your original comments should be forwarded to:

The Draft SEIS frequently references the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Saddle Road, from Mamalahoa Highway to Milepost 6, as completed in August 1999. Consequently, this EIS is available for public viewing and copying at:

In addition, we wish to inform you that two public hearings for this project have been scheduled as follows:
December 9, 2009, at 5:00pm, in Aunty Sally's Luau Hale, 799 Piilani Street, Hilo, Hawaii; and
December 10, 2009, from 3:30pm - 7:30pm, in the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority, Gateway Energy Center, 73-4460 Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii
The purpose of these hearings involves the introduction of the revised highway alignment and the gathering of evidence and testimony relating to this proposed highway. We urge you to attend and participate in the public hearings. If you are unable to appear at either of these hearings, you may file a signed statement presenting your views on this project which should be submitted no later than January 7, 2010.
